Role Descriptions

Coaches ultimately help people participating in sports to work towards achieving their full potential (this may be to represent their county, country or just to keep fit).

Coaches may support professional sportspeople, teams, community teams or school groups. Whatever the level, coaching involves making sure the best physical, psychological and practical conditions are available to allow participants to give their best performance.

Coaches work closely with individuals and groups, developing players’ ability by identifying needs and then plan and introduce suitable training programmes.

The role demands good interpersonal skills and a strong interest in helping others to succeed.

Many instructors/coaches combine coaching with other, often full-time, jobs.
