It’s important in sport as elsewhere that everyone has equal status and opportunities. Sports equity is about opening up sport to all members of the community.
It’s recommended that all clubs produce an equal opportunities policy and most importantly that the policy is understood and put into practice.
It’s important that your club promotes this ethos - producing an equity statement is a good way of doing this. It demonstrates your club’s commitment to equality of opportunity and should be included in the club’s constitution, and as a useful reminder for everyone.
Sports Equity is about fairness in sport, equality access, recognising inequalitites and taking steps to address them. It’s about changing the culture and structure of sport and physical activities to make sure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.
The Equal Opportunities Policy is often regarded as a more formal document, setting out in more practical terms the steps you intend to take to ensure that the equity statement is implemented and to show who is responsible for the various actions.
