SCW Programmes and Initiatives

The Sports Council for Wales (SCW) operates a number of funding schemes that aim to increase participation and improve performance in Welsh sport/physical activity. SCW has clear priorities for funding. All projects are assessed against two sets of criteria:

  • benefits to sport/physical activity e.g increasing the number of people participating in sport/physical activity or resulting in higher standards of performanceFacilities-Trampoline
  • providing new or additional opportunities for school-aged children; women and girls; people with disabilities; ethnic minority groups; and people in areas of economic disadvantage or low sports/physical activity participation.

Community Chest

Misc 005The main purpose of Community Chest is to support good projects which will create new or improved sport and physical activity opportunities that are additional to what is already in place and would not be able to happen without a grant.  The maximum grant is £1,000 in any 12 month period.

Minor Grants

This initiative offers funding for projects that create new, additional or improved opportunities to play sport/take part in physical activity.  The scheme is used to encourage individuals, families and communities to become more active.  Grants from £1,000 up to £10,000 can be awarded. The total project cost cannot exceed £12,500.

Capital Grants

This includes small capital grants (awards of up to £50k) and major capital grants (awards of up to £250k).
